Enterprise Identity and Access Management - New Series Available!
by Richard Siddaway

The Essentials Series: Enterprise Identity and Access Management starts by looking at identity and how you prove who you are. Once authenticated, you can be authorized to access the corporate data. There are a number of administration challenges in this field especially when multiple identity and access management systems are in use. The series premise is that consolidation on to a single system - namely Active Directory - can resolve these issues and provide a simplified system that is less expensive and more secure. The series closes with a look at the compliance issues surrounding Identity and Access Management and how these issues can be addressed by standardizing and consolidating on to Active Directory.Articles in this series include:Article #1: AuthenticationArticle #2: AuthorizationArticle #3: Administration ChallengesArticle #4: Compliance

The Shortcut Guide to Virtualization and Sevice Management - New eBook Available!
by Greg Shields

You’ve read the news stories and seen the promise that virtualization brings to the enterprise data center. In just a few short years, the idea of virtualization and the business benefits it brings has spread to virtually every facet of IT. Whether consolidating servers, individual desktops, the network itself, your critical storage, or the applications that drive your data processing, virtualization is the hot topic throughout Information Technology and its technologies today.Yet while all of these purported benefits are valid, the smart enterprise recognizes that virtualization’s promise is only truly achieved when virtualization augments the processing of business. The intent of this guide is to assist the smart enterprise with understanding virtualization’s fit into the rest of the IT environment. A major part of that fit is in aligning the promise of virtualization technology with the automation benefits associated with virtualization management. What you’ll find in reading this guide is that notwithstanding what technologies and technological improvements virtualization brings to the table, there are a set of management enhancements that also arrive. Those enhancements are a function of the levels of automation that naturally bundles with the move to virtualization.Chapter List:Chapter 1: Virtualization and Service ManagementChapter 2: Virtualization Automation: The Pure-play ApproachChapter 3: Automating Change Management in Virtualized EnvironmentsChapter 4: Problem Resolution in Virtualized EnvironmentsAuthor Quote:“Alone and without the right indicators in place, virtualization is yet another technology in a long string that improves the lives of individual IT administrators yet doesn’t demonstrably impact the bottom line,” explains author Greg Shields. “On the other hand, when integrated with a focus on improving operational processes and business agility, virtualization pays huge dividends to the smart enterprise. Focusing on the processes that wrap around virtualization, this guide explains how virtualization brings automation of many levels to the IT environment.”
